I must say that my imagination produced such images — and the thing was about pouring thousands of cubic meters of concrete on our insidious Baltic — that the frames from disaster films seem to be goodnight stories for kids. Work on the sea was in progress, the issue ceased to be exciting and then the invitation arrived.

The Aarsleff people looked at me as if was mentally ill when I told them about my visions. Not mention the fact that I had no idea that in the final design Aarsleff suggested performing the head of the beacon not in situ, on the sea, but as precast elements which were supposed to be transported from the shore by the Samson crane — and that was the moment to be observed by the visitors.

The things looked like that: first in the sea the footing appeared, the octagons made up of 17 steel tubes and sheet pile walls which were joined with the tubular pile located in the centre. Work was carried out from the floating Jack-Up platform. The base for the first beacon was installed for five days, but it took only 3 days to install the second one — after the model schedule was improved and the guidance software was used. When piling work was completed, there was the time for earthwork, or, as it should be called here, underwater work. First, non-bearing ground was pumped out from the inside of the isle. The tubes were filled with the mixture of sand and lime, and the beacons — with the oceans of aggregate (5 thousand tonnes). The loose material inside the isle was compacted carefully, then covered with a thin layer of concrete. Then the precast elements were installed on top of the isles — the heads of the beacons. It was executed in two stages. First, the Samson crane arrived with the smaller but heavier precast elements, 540 tonnes each, next — with the lighter elements, 380 tonnes each, topped with steel towers equipped with all the devices guiding sailors.
